May the road rise up
To meet you.
May the wind be always
At your back.
May the sun shine warm
Upon your face.
May the rain fall soft
Upon your field,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

~Celtic blessing, author unknown

On April 15, 1942 in Cork, Ireland, Mary Philomenia [Linehan] Swanson was born. This afternoon after a great struggle to survive after her recent surgery, her soul left this earthly place to be joined with the Lord.

Your positive thoughts and prayers for Tara Marie and her family are greatly appreciated.

Hi, I just came to your blog from the Trisomy21Online community. I am so sorry for the death of your mother, and I also want to send my deepest sympathy regarding Griffin. The exact same thing happened to us on June 7, 2004, our son, David Michael, was stillborn due to a true knot. He was beautiful and perfect, like all children, and he is so loved and missed by us each day. I can relate to the heavy pain and grief of losing a precious little one, it's just so wrong. We also have a daughter with Down Syndrome, Samantha, and so that is also an area of your life I can relate to strongly, she is 17 months old. And again, I am so sorry about the death of your mother. It seems that life is so full of pain and tragedy and, if weren't for the gift of love and friendship, I don't know that it would be bearable. Sometimes, too, I think that all these challenges and heartaches in life make life just that much sweeter in that without these experiences perhaps we would miss so much of the true joy and beauty in life.

With Sympathy and Compassion,

Alex

Your mom was very, very blessed to have you for a daughter - you are a true testimony to her spirit.

Take care of yourself--allow yourself to grieve for your Mom, and know that you will feel the warm sun on your face again, and that when it shines you will feel a million hugs from Heaven now.

Please check in with us whenever you can.

Dearest Tara,

My words will never be adequate to express how much I am hurting for you. So, instead, I will share with you the poem that comforted my own mother -- and me -- when I lost her -- which you so graciously helped me through.

Crossing the Bar
Alfred Lord Tennyson

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For though from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.

Tara Marie:

I am deeply sorry for the recent loss of your dear mother and I know this is an intolerable burden to have to bear for anyone.

Please know you are in my thoughts. My mother lost a valiant fight to cancer 11 years ago..another immigrant from the British Isles who made her way to Canada on a "big damn scary ship" (as she called it..LOL) I don't think she danced her way across the Atlantic as your mom did..she came (was dragged over...LOL) because my father was offered a job here after graduating from university and she knew this is where her future lay....she loved Canada eventually but she is laid to rest in her "home of England" on a lovely hill in Sheffield with an oak tree protecting her and my father's grave.

Much love coming your way and many healing thoughts through this tenuous time in your life.

The loss of a parent is never easy, my father died when I was 11 from cancer and my mom when I was 33; again from cancer..damn that horrible disease!!!!

I am also sending you a 1,000 hugs!!!

Susan - mommy to Daniel

Without knowing your mother personally, I know she was a wonderful woman for she raised such a unique, loving daughter. You keep her memory alive by passing on all the wonderful traits & love to Emma Sage & your other wonderful children. May your heart lighten soon. Our thoughts are with you. Big hugs!

TM: I thought about calling you tonight, but I wasn't sure if you would be home--and I didn't want to intrude.

I thought that I could just leave you a message to let you know you have been present in my thoughts for several days now.

I thought... How wonderful it would be if I could just hug you, to comfort you, and reassure you that everything is going to be ok.

I send you these sentiments via the world wide web--but they are quite as wonderful as if I were really there.

I hoped that you managed your day well--and I hoped that the charm of ES's smile would warm your heart and take some of that pain away. I counted on that.

I hoped that Greta, Katrina, sweet Otto, and Emma Sage were doing ok today.

I hoped that Rick was home and that you were surrounded by the people who love you.

I am thinking of you often my dear sweet friend.

From our house to yours we send you the deepest love, thoughts, prayers, and emotions.

Please call me when you are ready.

I'll miss your mom - our families spent a lot of thanksgivings together, and maybe a Christmas or two. She was sweet, and a great parent. Let me know if you need anything.
