Life Lessons....by Katrina

I found this piece of writing when I was going through my documents folder. I'm not sure when Katrina wrote it, but it made me so proud of both my daughters that I had to post it and share it with the world.

Most life lessons you learn while you are in school, or when you’re younger from your parents. Some the most important lessons in life I have learned are from a 4 year old little girl. It is weird think that a 4 year old has taught me some of the most important lessons I will ever learn in life, and how these lessons have impacted my life in such a miraculous way. But you see this little girl is not an ordinary 4 year old, she happens to have Down syndrome, and is anything but ordinary. Emma Sage is my little sister, she is the person in my life who is always there when I need her, and whenever I am upset she’s always there with a gigantic smile on her face and says those heart warming words to me, "Its okay Nini."
Emma Sage's being blessed with Down syndrome has to be one of the best things that have happened to me in my life, and I do truly believe that God blessed her with that extra chromosome for a reason. She has taught me so many life lessons, made me such a stronger, caring, and understanding person, and helped me discover a whole new world. I have met so many wonderful people because of my sister, and have joined a fantastic organization called PALS, where I have met some people who I know will be life long friends. I also am very excited to start PALS next year at my high school, so I can take the teachings of my sister and pass them on to other teenagers in my area. Emma Sage is not only a sister to me, she is one of my best friends, and I know wherever life takes me she’ll always be there backing me up. I just hope that one day everyone will be able to look beyond what's on the outside, and really take time to get to know people by how they are on the inside, because like the saying goes "you should never judge a book by its cover".
